I
attended the 3rd
American Dendrochronological Conference
(AmeriDendro2016) in Mendoza, Argentina, in March
2016. It was a fantastic conference, lots of very
good talks, and of course a great opportunity to catch up
with old friends and make some new ones.
The following photos are
from a mid-week conference hike to the Vallecitos
area outside of Mendoza. This is the
Cordon del Plata area, about two hour's drive
from where we held the conference in Mendoza. We
hiked up to the Las Veguitas camp 1 area, elevation
~3200m, where most of these photos were taken. Most
of the rest of the group hiked farther up to check
out a rock glacier in the next valley to the north,
but I stayed to wait for some light and try to get
some better photos. These few are from just an hour
or so spent around the Las Veguitas meadow and creek. We also
had the joy of seeing several guanaco on the slopes
to the south but they were too far away for me to get a
good photo. But what an amazing opportunity to see
them; even from a distance one can tell they are
lovely and graceful animals.
This was a fantastic midweek
break and I very much thank Igancio Mundo, Ricardo
Villalba, and all the organizers for such a
wonderful conference!
